The bouquet of red roses arrived on Mother’s Day. It came from her grown children who had long moved far away. She chose the most festive dress for the occasion, only to spend the day quietly alone. The look on her face does not say celebration.

We were graced with the presence of a youthful model at life drawing class this time. She was nearing the end of her pregnancy, a mere days away from her due date, in fact. And yet she continued to honor her work commitments. She sat there, legs crossed, wearing nothing but a face full of melancholy. Her figure was that much more curvaceous in her pregnant state. I imaged the baby she carried to be a girl who undoubtedly would grow up to be a beautiful woman. This painting is a well wish for this pair of beauties.
