Continuing its efforts to bring healthcare and the arts together, National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH), Yunlin Branch, will present “Scenery Along the Way,” an exhibition of works by artist Lin Kuei-hua, from November 3, 2026, through January 3, 2027, at the second-floor Arts Corridor of its Huwei Campus. A longtime artist, Lin also serves as chair of the Yunlin County Li Fu-lai Education Foundation, where she champions education and arts appreciation. Drawing on life experiences, family memories, and everyday observations, the exhibition transforms moments from her life into a distinctive visual language through color, line, and composition. Members of the public are invited to visit the hospital’s arts space and discover the subtle beauty and warmth of everyday life in her paintings.
Lin’s artistic journey did not begin with a conventional fine arts education. A graduate of the Department of Home Economics Education at National Taiwan Normal University, she worked as a junior high school teacher before entering the import-export business. While working in the United States, she continued to study painting, undertaking specialized training in life drawing at art and design institutions in Los Angeles and Pasadena. After returning to Taiwan in 2007, she devoted herself to art full-time, translating her accumulated life experiences and observations into paintings. Her work in education, business, and art has provided a rich foundation for her ongoing exploration of artistic forms and the development of her own visual vocabulary.
Alongside her artistic practice, Lin is committed to educational philanthropy through her role as chair of the Yunlin County Li Fu-lai Education Foundation. The foundation supports diverse educational opportunities in rural communities, providing resources and arts education activities that help children explore their interests and develop their creativity. Among its longstanding initiatives is the Li Fu-lai Cup On-Site Drawing Competition for elementary and junior high school students, which enters its 18th edition in 2026. Jointly organized by the foundation and the Yunlin County Government, the competition encourages students to explore their surroundings and depict scenes from their hometowns. By observing the local landscape and learning about its people and culture, participants cultivate both an appreciation of beauty and a sense of connection to their communities. Extending from her own creative work to support for the next generation’s arts education, Lin’s artistic practice reaches into public life, making art and aesthetic experiences more accessible to all.
Under the theme “Scenery Along the Way,” the exhibition explores how the artist draws inspiration from her life’s journey. Here, scenery encompasses not only the natural world but also memories of family life, people encountered in everyday settings, and the emotional traces left by time. Through observation, depiction, and the reworking of visual elements, familiar moments take on new forms on canvas. The works also invite viewers to connect with their own experiences and rediscover details that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Hospital Superintendent Ma Hui-ming noted that while the hospital’s central mission is to safeguard public health, healthcare involves more than diagnosing and treating disease. It also requires an understanding of the emotions and experiences of patients and their families as they face illness. Bringing art into healthcare settings through exhibitions not only enriches the hospital environment but also gives patients, families, and healthcare professionals opportunities to pause amid their busy routines, appreciate beauty, and find fresh perspectives and renewed strength. Through its continuing arts and cultural programs, NTUH Yunlin Branch seeks to integrate compassionate, person-centered care into the healthcare environment, bringing medical expertise and human connection together.
With deep roots in Yunlin, NTUH Yunlin Branch continues to improve the quality of its medical services and expand its capacity to provide care, while creating a healthcare environment that combines professional excellence with compassion. Through exhibitions in a variety of forms, the hospital’s Arts Corridor brings art into the clinical setting, making the hospital not only a place for diagnosis and treatment but also a public space where people can encounter art, share feelings, and experience the beauty of everyday life.
Lin Kuei-hua’s “Scenery Along the Way” will be on view from November 3, 2026, through January 3, 2027, at the second-floor Arts Corridor of the Huwei Campus, NTUH Yunlin Branch. Community members are warmly invited to explore the many facets of life reflected in these works and discover landscapes that resonate with their own life journeys.
